Ecliptic Labs create products and services that are both engaging and useful. Ecliptic are a mobile user experience company based in Belfast, Northern Ireland that work on projects all over the world.

Formed in 2009, Ecliptic has seen immediate success by focusing our user experience qualities on handheld devices, specifically iPhones.

Our team

Chris McClelland

Chris McClelland Chris McClelland is an experienced developer and designer working in the areas of digital media and audiovisual communication.

He is interested in the fusion of technology and design, at research and commercial levels, and has held a research post at the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen's University.

Chris has been involved in a number of large scale development projects particularly for Integra (an EU project) and the International Computer Music Conference. In addition Chris’s audiovisual work has been exhibited in North and South America, and across Europe. Chris has lectured and led workshops in many diverse areas including computer programming, web development, audio engineering and audio/visual performance systems.

Philip Strain

Philip Strain Philip Strain combines development experience with expert knowledge of usability and accessibility.

Having completed a PhD in the field of Web Accessibility and published over 12 papers, Philip has applied his academic knowledge in several industrial contexts. For example, Philip has advised the Royal Mail Group on their accessibility strategy, and worked as part of the accessibility team to ensure that Royal Mail's web products and services are available for all.

In addition, Philip worked as part of Google's User Experience Research team, where he conducted a number of eye-tracking and mobile studies. In addition, Philip conducted several studies with visually impaired participants, leading to an enhancement in Google's overall accessibility.

Michael Alcorn

Michael Alcorn Michael Alcorn led the development of the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen's University, one of world's largest groups working in the area of new media research.

Under his leadership, SARC has expanded it's research programme to include work in interaction, audio visual design, multichannel audio, emotion and haptics and other areas of new media research. He has been involved collaborative projects with companies such as HP and Digital Theatre Systems and he is a co-founder of Ecliptic Labs in 2009.
